Venue: Off the Cuff Bar / Herne Hill
Category: Herne Hill Free Film Festival
Date: 13.05.2015
Time: 20.00 h
Description:

The ApplicantStepping up to the plate are two London based creatives who’ve recently turned their hand to directing. World class photographer Uzo Oleh, and well established UK actor and writer, Darren Rapier both introduce their directorial shorts.

Join us at Herne Hill's Off The Cuff bar, Railway Arch 645, 301-303 Railton Road (right by the train station), on Wednesday 13th May at 8pm for the screening of these films.

We’ll be joined by both directors for a Q&A session after their screenings.

The Applicant (Dir: Uzo Oleh, 2015, UK, Cert 18. 4 min) written and produced by David Ratner is a fast-paced snapshot of the working woman's arena and looks at the fiercely competitive job market, where Edith Abba arrives at a job interview and literally has to fight for the position.

It was directed by photographer Uzo Oleh, one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the UK in recent years.

Working on projects from Vogue to Nike and with the likes of Lady Gaga and Idris Elba - within his photographic style of clean, classic beauty and cinematic reportage, Uzo brings a fine art attitude to all of his projects, which have most recently involved directing short films and cinematography.

Blind Man’s Bluff (Dir: Darren Rapier, 2010, UK, Cert U. 10 min) is a comedy short that’s sees Connor, abandoned by his new work colleagues, get into a whole heap of trouble when the dustcart he’s left in charge of drops a bin onto a blind man’s dog. Not wishing to upset the owner he pretends the dog is OK. Things get steadily worse as he finds it harder and harder to come clean.

Darren has been in the business for over 20 years with a raft of writing and acting credits to his name, for TV, film and stage, but more recently he's turned his hand to directing and this was one of his first shorts as a writer/director.

STOP"It ain’t easy, but it’s simple…" wise words from someone so young. But can a new life simply be a bus ride away?

We're thrilled to announce that the award winning STOP will now also be included in the Director's Chair night.

STOP (Dir: Paul Murphy, 2012, UK, Cert U. 14 min) is a poignant piece where a chance bus stop encounter between Karen, a shy, introverted woman and Niki, a loud, over-confident teenage girl takes a deeper turn, when personal secrets are inadvertently revealed, and confessions take the place of pleasantries.

STOP
has had great international success winning two Best Actor Awards, and playing in nineteen festivals.

Writer and Director Paul Murphy will also join us for a Q&A after the film's screening.

This is a FREE event. No tickets required, arrive early to get the best seats.
